LARA LOUISE

Wed, March 5 at 7:30 pm

Imagine a Botticelli angel stepping out of the frame, and singing you a classic jazz song in a perfect, smoky voice. That’s Lara Louise!

Born and raised in the city of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Ms Louise learned to play guitar listening to the folk songs of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Later, she became influenced by jazz and bossa nova singers such as Madeleine Peyroux, Carla Bruni, Julie London and Astrud Gilberto. All these different influences make for a tasteful variety of classic songs, tied together with her unique style and soft, sultry voice.

After studying philosophy in the Netherlands, Lara moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. Currently, she plays at venues and private events, either solo or supported by some of the Bay Area's finest jazz musicians. She records songs with multi-intrumentalist and producer Gawain Mathews, which to date have been streamed over ten million times on Spotify and Youtube.

Hers is a unique talent, blessed by great beauty and providing some extraordinary jazz with a unique European flair.

TIFFANY AUSTIN

Wed, March 19 at 7:30 pm

This sensational young prodigy is blazing her own unique path. After graduating from UC Berkeley School of Law, Ms Austin committed her formidable talents to jazz, and is already in demand at the top clubs in the Bay Area and beyond.

Her debut CD Nothing But Soul drew raves from Downbeat Magazine: “her rhythmically hypnotic versions of big band swing and rowdy shuffles are delivered with clarity of tone and outright presence.” Austin’s follow-up album Unbroken celebrates the full range of African-American music –blues, swing, spirituals, R&B, bebop, post-bop, and her own Louisiana Creole heritage - and features a band whose members whose own pedigrees included stints with Art Farmer, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Johnny Griffin, and Betty Carter.

Born in L.A., Austin studied classical voice at Cal State Northridge. Then, off to London, where she sat in at jazz sessions. She spent several years in Tokyo working as an R&B chanteuse, only returning to study law. After getting her law degree, a series of prestigious gigs made her the most exciting new jazz voice in the Bay Area.

However, Tiffany Austin is far more than a beautiful voice. Claiming her cultural birthright, she’s an artist drawing nourishment from all of jazz’s roots.
